Target gears up for Nintendo Switch 2 launch
Target is offering expanded deals on select merchandise ahead of a much-anticipated video game console launch.
The Nintendo Switch 2 hand-held gaming system officially launches at Target stores on June 5, along with the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle, before becoming available on the Target app and Target.com the next day.
Nintendo announced the Switch 2 on Jan. 16, 2025, and shared its full specifications and release details on April 2. The retailer said that when preorders went live on Target.com for the console April 24, they sold out in less than two hours.
To celebrate the launch, Target is rolling out an expanded assortment of Nintendo-inspired products – such as stainless steel tumblers, apparel, toys, collectibles and more – starting at $20. The retailer is also creating a dedicated Nintendo shopping experience in the electronics section of select stores, featuring the full assortment beginning June 5. It will also host in-store celebrations on launch day in select stores featuring giveaways and more.
“At Target, we don’t just launch products — we create moments,” said Cassandra Jones, senior VP of merchandising at Target. “The Nintendo Switch 2 is one of the most anticipated gaming releases in years, and we’re making it unforgettable for our guests in a uniquely Target way. From exclusive launch day experiences and giveaways to a wide assortment of Nintendo-inspired merch starting at just $20, we’re turning our stores into a celebration of play. Our partnership with Nintendo makes Target the ultimate destination for consumers, and we’re thrilled to help them power up for this next-level adventure.”
